Part 3: Tools and techniques
About this lesson
Paul stresses that risk and opportunity should be managed within each QMS process, as part of the process approach, and not as a standalone task owned by one person. ISO 9001 does not mandate a technique, so he covers a range that organisations use.
He shows how the turtle diagram, widely used in automotive, can capture risk and opportunity box by box (people, equipment, documentation and support processes), and how a one to five probability and impact scale can rank the results. The standard leaves the choice of ranking method to the organisation.
In this part
- Brainstorming, questionnaires, benchmarking, scenarios and workshops
- FMEA for product, process, machine and non-production processes
- Fault tree analysis, contingency and disaster recovery planning, and feasibility review
- Using the turtle diagram to identify risk and opportunity
- Ranking risks as high, medium or low
